Road Marking Materials
Materials for horizontal road marking
Horizontal road markings can be applied using several different materials: enamels, heat-sensitive plastics and cold plastics. In durability terms, the materials for horizontal markings are divided into enamels and long-life materials.
Enamels are complex mixtures, the main components of which are the filler, the colorant, the bonding agent and the diluting agent.
Heat-sensitive plastics (thermoplastics) in their unmodified state are represented by a powdered (granular) blend of components. Thermoplastics consist of the following materials: thermoplastic resin, water-reducing agent, colorant, mineral filler, production and functional additives.
Cold plastics in their unmodified state are fluid mixtures of the main components and a separately added hardening agent. The mixture comprises thermoplastic resin, water-reducing agent, colorant, mineral filler, production and functional additives.
To give the horizontal road markings the required retro-reflective qualities, glass micro-beads are used.
The glass beads used are a blend of transparent glass granules whose surface shape is almost spherical. The beads are used either as a filler in the marking material or for dusting the surface of marked lines. The blend comprises thermoplastic resin, water-reducing agent, colorant, mineral filler, production and functional additives.
